Conserving the Future: Wildlife Refuges and the Next Generation

The following is a short review of the brand new website from the National Wildlife Refuge System. It is called Conserving the Future: Wildlife Refuges and the Next Generation. They need and want your input now on the future of OUR National Wildlife Refuge System.

Conserving the Future provides a platform for people like you and us to voice our collective opinions about the direction of the NWRs. The National Wildlife Refuge System protects 150 million acres of habitat in 553 refuges (at least one in every U.S. state and territory!). We all have a stake in these wonderful refuges and we have a chance to be heard.

From the Conserving the Future website:

This website will play a key role in the development of a new vision document for the Refuge System. A vision document – to be adopted in July 2011 at a conference in Madison, Wisconsin – will guide this premier system for wildlife protection into the next decade and beyond.

We support the bold ideas of: Create a migratory bird conservation stamp (i.e. Duck Stamp) for wildlife observers and Grasslands need renewed emphasis in the Refuge System among others. Please vote for our idea as well: Increase and Improve Marketing Efforts of the NWRS
