Skechers 500 Mile Mark Update

It has been over 6 months since I started walking and hiking with my Skechers Shape-ups AT Diamondback Trail and I have surpassed the 500 mile mark.

These shoes have been abused, covering all types of terrain and activities. I have played full court basketball in them, ran several miles, and walked through mud, water, and volcanic rocks in them.

In Hawaii I put them through the red dirt of Waimea Canyon and some of the red staining remains. I also trekked across sharp and unstable volcanic rocks and the shoes prevented several ankle rolls.

The shoes are still great for walking but I have discovered that basketball and running should be left for other shoes. The extra cushioning and unique shape make active sports more difficult and uncomfortable.

The shoes also are showing some serious wear after 500 miles, as you can tell in the photos below.

I feel like I can still get 500 more miles out of these but time will tell. I am not worried so much of their looks but hope they maintain their functionality and can endure many more long hikes and dog walks.

The goal is to put 1,000 miles on these shoes. I think my posture has improved and I weigh in the low 160s now (from 173 when I started). Of course, much of this is also due to improved diet but the encouragement to walk more and be more active is always important, especially since I have a desk job.
