The mission of the Iowa Young Birders Club:

Iowa Young Birders promotes engagement with our natural world and conservation issues by empowering young Iowans to study and enjoy birds and birding.

The Iowa Young Birders Club came to life on July 14, 2011 from the work of Carl and Linda Bendorf. The organization is an independent not-for-profit corporation and needs the support of young members as well as adults.

The club received a $20,000+ grant for its 2013 field trip programs so look for some really fun events for young birders.

The field trips are still being worked out so check back for more details.

Membership is just $10 a year and $35 for supporting adults so join now!

  1. Thanks for mentioning us. We’re very exciting about our second year of programs. Between July and November last year, we sponsored 7 field trips around Iowa which hosted 65 young birders and roughly 40 accompanying parents, grandparents, and other family members.

We’ve just posted an exciting new schedule of field trips for the first half of 2013 and you can see them at http://www.iowayoungbirders.org/calendar/

I also understand that Minnesota and Michigan are right now fledging young birder groups so the Midwest is really rocking the young birder movement!

  2. Carl – you are most welcome! We agree the Midwest is rocking the young birder movement. We’ll be featuring Michigan and Minnesota as well! Hopefully before too long, every state will have a young birder club! Keep up the great work!
