Gearing Up For May Migration!

May is my favorite month to bird as it is jam-packed with a constant supply of ever-changing migrant birds. I always try to keep the windows wide open so I can awake to the sounds of newly arrived warblers, orioles, tanagers, grosbeaks, flycatchers, and more.

May has been the most amazing month for birds at the Callaway Nature Preserve (aka, the backyard) with such surprises as a double dose of cuckoos back in May ’08.

Plans are in the works for a trip to Ohio to meet up with Jennie and Dakota and check out Magee Marsh. We also intend on trekking from Sugar River Forest Preserve to Wisconsin (a continuous route that covers three forest preserves).

To prepare for the upcoming influx of birds, trips, and long hikes we have a series of posts starting on Monday April 26th to get you prepared for migration. Spring is in full swing and we plan to go full throttle all the way into June! And beyond!!
