Birds are the rulers of the sky, so it is only fitting to have this group of shorebirds as our Skywatch Friday photo.
One of our rewards for participating in the birder-blogger event with Swarovski Optik was we were presented with a sweet Swarovski crystal raptor. We are not sure what type of bird the crystal is supposed to be but Northern Hawk-Owl seems to fit. Any other ideas?
We finished up our amazingly wonderful blogging-birding event with Swarovski with some stunning birding along the cape of Massachusetts. We are heading back home tomorrow with some more sightseeing along the way. This Piping Plover baby is just begging for a hilarious caption. While in Rhode Island we have started to see lots of Northern Mockingbirds. This was a life bird for Dakota, and a bird we seldom see in northern Illinois. Northern Mockingbird with earwig
Upon finding an eight-legged water strider we questioned whether the apparently clean stream was in fact full of radioactive runoff. Turns out, it was just a mating pair! Adding to our photo lifelist, we found this Caspian Tern while looking for shorebirds. This is bird #213 (unofficially) and a lucky find as a pair flew quickly by.
