The Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO) in Northwest Ohio is a critical stop-over for our avian friends during migration. They are funded by members, donors and grants. What makes the BSBO so great is that not only do they do important research but they promote the love and appreciation for birds, especially with young birders.
The BSBO Mission:
“The mission of the Black Swamp Bird Observatory is to inspire
the appreciation, enjoyment and conservation of birds and their
habitats through research, education and outreach.”
The Kreager Challenge
There is nothing more awesome than a person or company that matches a donation. So we encourage you to take the KREAGER CHALLENGE! If you would like to donate to the BSBO, your donations will be MATCHED! BSBO Board member Randy Kreager has offered up to $6,000.00 in matched donations!
There is nothing more wonderful than when a dollar becomes two! Many thanks to Randy Kreager for this awesome challenge!

The Ohio Birdfreaks have a soft spot for the BSBO because we have seen first hand what the amazing staff does to promote birds and birding. We have witnessed the benefits of their long-term research. The love and caring birders at the BSBO are beyond compare. I am proud to live in Ohio and be a Birdfreak here!

Just discovered your website/blog- there are thousands of “chicken” sized white birds that appear to be resting along side I-5 freeway between Sacramento and Redding! Not ducks or geese -seem shorter legged than Cranes OR HERINS sp?
Beautiful sight!! Any idea what they are! Sorry I didn’t get a photo!
