Woodpecker Ghosts Return…in Brazil
Apparently, the southern swamps of the U.S. are not the only place where woodpeckers return from a lost world. While the Ivory-billed Woodpecker grabbed loads of attention (well deserved, of course), I’m sure this species from Brazil won’t. This is the first I heard of it (the article is dated June 12, 2006). I’m talking about the Caatinga Woodpecker Celeus obrieni.
What a wickedly cool looking bird!
