Birding

We love to travel to find new birds and participate in a lot of bird counts. We also created a Guide to Birding Field Guides and host a collection of over 300 birding links from all over the globe.

Conservation

While our main focus continues to be birds, we promote other areas of conservation as well. Conserving land not only benefits wildlife, but is hugely beneficial to people as well.

Outdoors

We love all sorts of outdoor activities, especially hiking and spend a lot of time outside with dogs and horses. We are working to produce more articles on all sorts of outdoor fun!

Photography

Every week we bring you Bird Photography Weekly. We periodically talk about our adventures in digiscoping. Feel free to browse our photo lifelist.

House Wren Feeding and Fecal Sac Removal

June 27, 2011
Article in: Birding

A pair of House Wrens decided to nest outside my parent’s picture window, providing a near constant show. We witnessed several feedings and at least two baby mouths inside the box.

Then we saw one of the young stick its rear out the nest hole and deposit a fecal sac into its parent’s mouth for proper removal.

Gross and cool!!

Side note: The wrens are nesting about 5 feet away from an American Robin pair that is on their second brood in a nest by the front door.

Big Bug, Little Wren

Article in: Birding

House Wrens are known to be a bit big for their size. We witness them often dive-bombing squirrels, chasing away Blue Jays, and scolding if someone even dares look in the direction of their nest box. Even their appetites can be a bit large.
