Birding

We love to travel to find new birds and participate in a lot of bird counts. We also created a Guide to Birding Field Guides and host a collection of over 300 birding links from all over the globe.

Conservation

While our main focus continues to be birds, we are working to promote other areas of conservation. Conserving land not only benefits wildlife, but is hugely beneficial to people as well.

Outdoors

We love all sorts of outdoor activities, especially hiking and spend a lot of time outside with dogs and horses. We are working to produce more articles on all sorts of outdoor fun!

Photography

Every week we bring you Bird Photography Weekly. We periodically talk about our adventures in digiscoping. Feel free to browse our photo lifelist.

Birding Missouri – State List

July 8, 2009
Article in: Birding

Veery has temporarily moved! The Birdfreak Team is partially split for the summer as Veery spends a few months working in Jefferson City, Missouri. Join in on her adventures through a new state and her quest to answer this question: How’s the birding in mid-Missouri?

I have officially started my State of Missouri bird list. I’ve decided to count everything I (and any visiting Birdfreaks) find within the state line. I am curious to find out more about Missouri hotspots, but I haven’t done much research yet. I do want to find Road Runners and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, but I will have to travel a bit to find those two! Many of the birds that have made the list so far are from Binder Park, a busy city park that contains a large lake and some good birdy possibilities. (more…)

Phriday Photo – Eastern Wood-Pewee

Article in: Photography

Whew, what a busy and cool week! Last night we had our first NCIOS (Rockford Bird Club) meeting of the 2008-2009 season and got caught up with all the birders we hadn’t seen all summer.

Plus, there is a whole onslaught of new things going on at Birdfreak.com. Plus, tomorrow Birdfreak is leading a field trip to Illinois Beach State Park (although it looks like there will be a LOT of rain). So, look for a lot of big things in the upcoming few weeks.

Enjoy this Phriday Photo of an Eastern Wood-Pewee with a moth.
