#15 of 31 Days to Better Birding and Conservation

In Rockford, Illinois we have a wonderful bird club called North Central Illinois Ornithological Society (NCIOS). We meet once a month through September to June and have regular field trips during this time. It is important to support local bird clubs because it is a great way to meet up with other birders in your area. We’ve met many wonderful birders this way and it is always a good way to learn what is going on in the area and what others are up to.

If your immediate area doesn’t have a bird club, consider joining a statewide club or Audubon society chapter. Even if you don’t attend meetings, your support is valuable to these local clubs.

Conservation can gain in leaps in bounds by starting local and working outwards.
