Chinese Mantis In Your Face
Shot with a 100mm macro lens

After going for a long walk at lunch time (mostly for exercise so not much in terms of wildlife diversity) I returned to my work building and discovered a mantis relaxing on the handrail outside my door. After quickly snapping a photo with my iPhone just in case someone squashed him or he decided to leave, I quickly got my work DSLR and snapped several more shots including some macros.

At first I identified this as a Praying Mantis but I think it is a Chinese Mantis (Tenodera aridifolia) which according to eNature.com “. . . was introduced from China around 1896 as a beneficial insect.”
