I am a long time AVID Birder since ever I can remember (and I can remember back to when I was 18 months old!~) and have been taking pictures, watching and enjoying all manner of bird species all my life. I think of birds as a form of natural enjoyment that allows me to see the wonder of nature and express my amazement at the diversity of one class of animals. They are also great markers of environmental trouble. If suddenly there are less birds around, you know something's gone wrong in the environment. With their diets and area coverage, birds could be the first marker of serious trouble in the environment and we should not only understand that, but take steps to preserve them for their beauty as well as their potential utility to spot disaster before it's too late to do something.
