Birding

We love to travel to find new birds and participate in a lot of bird counts. We also created a Guide to Birding Field Guides and host a collection of over 200 birding links from all over the globe.

Conservation

While our main focus continues to be birds, we promote other areas of conservation as well. Conserving land not only benefits wildlife, but is hugely beneficial to people as well.

Year of the Young Birder

2013 is officially The Year of the Young Birder! We plan on spending the whole year promoting young birder clubs and sharing ideas on how to help student naturalists become lifelong conservationists.

Female Scarlet Tanager

Last weekend I went on a fairly long hike but didn’t discover too many birds. Loads of Eastern Bluebirds and this female Scarlet Tanager that tried to blend in with the foliage.

I haven’t been out birding much lately as construction on our house began and we have been super busy with that!

Nice photo of the Scarlet Tanager. It is amazing the spare time that is lost when having a house built. We recently just had our house finished and have been able to enjoy other hobbies again more often – such as birding.

Backyard Bird Paradise – thanks much! I still can’t believe how time consuming it is but so worth it. And we hope to build our own backyard bird paradise :)

I’ve had a red-breasted nuthatch out here for a few weeks now. Evidently they don’t come down this way except during an irruption, so it’s cool to get to see one in person!

Lana – “red nutties” are so much fun to watch; cool that you are getting them too. I wonder if the drought up here has pushed some south.
