#2 of 31 Days to Better Birding and Conservation

A Big Sit is a 24-hour event where the goal is to count the total number of species that can be observed in a 17-foot diameter circle. You can read more details and sign up a circle at Birdwatcher’s Digest.

The importance of doing a Big Sit is multi-faceted: you can use the event as a way to raise money for conservation and by participating in a Big Sit you can hone your birding skills. Even if you don’t go the full 24 hours, sitting put in one place listening and watching for birds is a pleasant change of pace from more “traditional” forms of birding.

This year’s Big Sit is Sunday, October 14th. Don’t forget to sign up!
