Birding

We love to travel to find new birds and participate in a lot of bird counts. We also created a Guide to Birding Field Guides and host a collection of over 300 birding links from all over the globe.

Conservation

While our main focus continues to be birds, we promote other areas of conservation as well. Conserving land not only benefits wildlife, but is hugely beneficial to people as well.

Outdoors

We love all sorts of outdoor activities, especially hiking and spend a lot of time outside with dogs and horses. We are working to produce more articles on all sorts of outdoor fun!

Photography

Every week we bring you Bird Photography Weekly. We periodically talk about our adventures in digiscoping. Feel free to browse our photo lifelist.

Digiscoper of the Year Contest

Swarovski Optik, one of the finest makers of binoculars and scopes, has a fantastic contest for digiscopers. The Digiscoper of the Year Contest allows digiscopers to showcase their shots and win great prizes.

For those unfamiliar, digiscoping is the use of a spotting scope and a digital camera to take photos through what is effectively a really great telephoto lens.

The contest is open for anyone with photos taken through any scope. Our current model of scope isn’t that great so we entered the shots below which were taken with a borrowed Swarovski 80mm HD scope.

The three “Digiscopers of the Year” will win outstandig Swarovski Optik products and the best 20 pictures will be published in the Swarovski Optik Digiscoping Yearbook 2009. A publication fee of EUR 300,- will be paid for this. – Swarovski Website

It is very easy to enter but you only have until 30 September 2008, so get going!

Nothing beats that plover chick–that’s absolutely precious! I’m hoping to get into digiscoping one day, but for now it’s just a little too rich for my blood. I only finally just managed to get a tripod this past Spring. *L*
