Over Labor Day weekend I injured my knee. My neighbor’s dog ran into my leg and it twisted it backwards and it really hurt. The dog didn’t see me and ran into me but it was on accident.
So, birding has been no fun because I can’t walk very well. I was able to sit down and bird in the backyard though and luckily there are some warblers and other birds like Common Nighthawks to watch.

In my backyard there are three Ruby-throated Hummingbirds that are coming to the feeders. They are fun to watch hovering and drinking.
It is hard to deal with not playing baseball or hiking and I don’t know yet how long I will have to wait to get better. I hope it is soon.

Oh, Dakota, I’m so sorry to hear about your accident with the neighbor’s dog. What a bummer for the first weeks of school, too. I’m sure it’s no fun to be on crutches. BTW, how’s the dog doing? ;o) So what kind of warblers have you seen in your yard? And nighthawks — now that would be something I’d love to see. Take care of yourself, and I hope you’ll heal quickly.
Thank you Mary. The dog is fine (he is a good dog)
I saw a Black and White Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, and lots of American Redstarts. I also saw one Chestnut-sided Warbler.
This morning, I got to take off my brace (after 10 days) - I am sooooooo happy!
bummer kid, that must be a real bringdown, but hey! you got some Rubies in your yard! I only get those a few months a year and have to go look for em deep down in the wilderness!
great blog Kid, love your articles and photos
Bum leg? Sounds like a time to start taking pictures of bugs (they move less than birds)!
