My sister Allison is too young to write her own blog, but she loves to help me and my family. Allison also loves birds. I decided to let her practice blogging by writing the following post. These are all her own words:
Allison by Birdfreak

My Mom likes Blue Jays and I do too. Blue Jays are my sister’s favorite bird. I also like chickadees. My favorite birds are owls. I love Great Horned Owls and Snowy Owls. I have never seen them.
Allison by Birdfreak

American Robins like to eat worms. I love my sister. She helps me bird and she reads to me a lot. I finished kindergarten this year. After summer break I will be in first grade.

At my house there is a Common Grackle nest. The baby ones always peep. One time I saw the Mom in the tree. I scared her away though. But they came back. I never see them feed the babies.

I can’t wait to write another post. Thanks Sammie!

Me by Birdfreak

Today, I went hiking at Deer Run FP with my aunt , sister, and cousin. The weather was a little windy but really nice. We saw and heard Dickcissels for the first time this year.

We saw Eastern Meadow Larks and an Eastern Kingbird up close. We saw two Field Sparrows carrying food. We found Wood Ticks too. I hate ticks. Birds like to eat them I hope. We also saw Turkey Vultures.

I think Deer Run is a good place to bird. Right before we left, we found baby Killdeer! They were really cute!

American Robin by Birdfreak

What I love about American Robins is that I see them everywhere! I see them near my house, all over the grass, at the parks in big groups and on my way to my Grandma’s house in lots of yards. They are a common bird in many places.
American Robins are very pretty and their babies are really beautiful too. I have gotten really close to a young one before, less than a foot away! I made sure not to get too close though.

American Robins fly around a lot but they are really good at hopping and running around. They eat worms and bugs in the grass and love water. You might see them having a tug of war with a worm and it is funny to watch!

I looked up what a group of jays is called. I found out that they are called a party or a scold. Although they sound like they are scolding each other sometimes, I like my new term for jays, a jabberwocky.
Blue Jays by BobMacInne
A jabberwocky is a cool word and Blue Jays jabber a lot. I have never seen a jabberwocky of Blue Jays, but I have heard them in the trees. I usually see only one or two Blue Jays at a time.
Blue Jay by Birdfreak

Since Blue Jays are the one type of jay that lives around me, I usually use the word jabberwocky about them. I have seen one other type of jay in my life which was a Steller’s Jay in Colorado. A jabberwocky can be about any kind of jay group though.

The last days of school are filled with fun activities, and you get to talk a lot with your friends. After school I play with my cousin and friends and sometimes we watch birds. At my Grandparents house there are a lot of birds.

I was watching the Downy Woodpeckers that have a nest in my Grandma’s backyard. I watched an American Robin and Northern Cardinals. I also saw a Gray Catbird (two of them).
The weather is really hot and I want to go swimming. I wonder if you can swim and bird watch at the same time? Maybe in a creek.
