Birding

We love to travel to find new birds and participate in a lot of bird counts. We also created a Guide to Birding Field Guides and host a collection of over 300 birding links from all over the globe.

Conservation

While our main focus continues to be birds, we promote other areas of conservation as well. Conserving land not only benefits wildlife, but is hugely beneficial to people as well.

Outdoors

We love all sorts of outdoor activities, especially hiking and spend a lot of time outside with dogs and horses. We are working to produce more articles on all sorts of outdoor fun!

Photography

Every week we bring you Bird Photography Weekly. We periodically talk about our adventures in digiscoping. Feel free to browse our photo lifelist.

Birding Missouri – State List

Veery has temporarily moved! The Birdfreak Team is partially split for the summer as Veery spends a few months working in Jefferson City, Missouri. Join in on her adventures through a new state and her quest to answer this question: How’s the birding in mid-Missouri?

I have officially started my State of Missouri bird list. I’ve decided to count everything I (and any visiting Birdfreaks) find within the state line. I am curious to find out more about Missouri hotspots, but I haven’t done much research yet. I do want to find Road Runners and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, but I will have to travel a bit to find those two! Many of the birds that have made the list so far are from Binder Park, a busy city park that contains a large lake and some good birdy possibilities.

Daily I see (and hear!) Northern Mockingbirds around Jefferson City and I am loving them more and more! They aren’t common in Northern Illinois, so I was so excited the first time I saw one. I haven’t gotten a good photo yet, but I was able to snap an Eastern Wood-Pewee and a few scenery shots of Binder Park.

Good birding and God Bless!
