in Birding

Winnebago County is located in the north central tip of Illinois. It shares its border with Wisconsin. This county is a crossroads of transitional ecosystems, where east meets west and north meets south. Winnebago County is a prime birding location, especially during spring and fall migration. Apporoximately 324 birds have been sighted within Winnebago County. This is a fair number considering that there is no coastline and no major wildlife refuges.

Sugar River Forest Preserve

Winnebago has some 36 forest preserves, a state park, and an excellent city park district. Not only that, but the Natural Land Institute is doing quite a bit of work to restore prime habitat.
