This Blue-winged Warbler [Vermivora pinus] was caught in the act! Despite their bright colors, they can often be overlooked. A little trick to remember their sound from the closely related Golden-winged Warbler is:
- Blue-winged, two syllables = “bee-bzzz”
- Gold-en-winged, three syllables = “bee-bzzz-bzzzz”
Hybridizes extensively with Golden-winged Warbler, giving rise to the distinctly plumaged “Brewster’s” and “Lawrence’s” warblers. – Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s All About Birds
